SAN JUAN CITY — Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte lauded the city government’s initiative in internet-based learning to continue education amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The San Juan Kalingap (Kaagapay, Lingkod at Gabay sa Pandemya) Program is an undertaking of the local government which provides tablets to all public school students in grades 1 to 3 and laptops to grades 4 to 6. All 13 public schools in the city and a total of 7,000 households have fiber optic internet connections to ensure accessibility and convenient online learning for the students.
Duterte thanked the city government under Mayor Francisco Javier Zamora’s administration, for its “unceasing commitment to provide a better quality of education among the youth through initiatives that promote an improved quality of learning.”
“By collaborating with our local policy makers, school administrators, and the general public in building avenues for sustainable learning, you have successfully initiated valuable programs that empower communities and enhance school activity among your students,” Duterte said.
“Thus, I laud you for the successful implementation of this project which seeks to advance the city’s public education system through greater accessibility to information technology,” she added.
Aside from internet connectivity in public schools and thousands of households, all classrooms were also installed with 55-inch television sets to support learning instructions.
Duterte, who expressed her admiration over the initiative in bridging the learning gaps, said this is a dream for the country’s education system.
“Sabi ko nga, yung parangap pa lang natin as a nation, pero ginagawa na ng San Juan,” she said before education stakeholders, local officials, and students.
“Sabi ko nga, nagpapasalamat ako dahil ngayong umagang ito na-highlight natin para makita ng ibang mga local government units na pwede nilang simulan na at pwede nilang gawin para sa kanilang mga mag-aaral,” she added.
San Juan’s Kalingap Program is a Galing Pook awardee. Galing Pook is an independent award body which gives recognition to remarkable initiatives, innovations, and sustainable development in the local government units.
