VP Sara reiterates campaign promises: jobs, peace, education

KALIBO, Aklan — Vice President Sara Duterte on Friday reiterated her campaign promises to focus on providing jobs, and strengthening peace and education as the second highest official of the country.

This, as the Vice President attended the meet and greet and welcome party of the UniTeam Kalibo at the Aklan Training Center here.

“Rest assured na kung ano man ‘yung promise ko noong kampanya, just what I did noong mayor ako sa Davao City — my promise to all Dabawenyos — kung ano ‘yung gagawin ko as city mayor, ay ‘yun din ang gagawin ko as Vice President,” Duterte said.

“Tatlo ang isinusulong namin — trabaho, negosyo, at kapayapaan. True enough, binigyan ako ng opportunity ni Pangulong Bongbong Marcos with the folio of the Department of Education,” she added.

Duterte is also the Secretary of Education.

The Vice President said that although challenging, she was hopeful that the education sector in the country will further improve under her term.

“It is quite a challenge because kung nakikita ninyo ang performance natin sa international assessments, nasa last talaga tayo. That is why we are working very hard right now sa Department of Education to improve the performance ng ating mga estudyante,” Duterte said.

She also gave the latest update of the Department of Education about forming the Basic Education Report for 2023 where they are evaluating the problems in basic education and establishing further plans for the improvement of the sector.

On peace and providing jobs, Duterte cited the Mag Negosyo Ta ‘Day and Peace 911, two of the projects under the Office of the Vice President to help stimulate entrepreneurial activities, create employment, and accelerate economic growth across the Philippines, allowing struggling Filipinos to gain or regain their confidence and financial independence.

“Sa Office of the Vice President, we have this Peace 911 which was a very successful project we did doon sa Davao City. In four years, nagawa naming tapusin ang insurgency sa area ng Davao City which we call the Paquibato District,” Duterte said.

“Sa trabaho naman, we have the Mag Negosyo Ta ‘Day, an entrepreneurship program for women and LGBTQI+ intended as a secondary income. While working, they have another income and education about entrepreneurship,” she added.

The Mag-Negosyo Ta 'Day livelihood program, which has elevated inclusive financial support for women and LGBTQI+ members in Davao City where Duterte served as the City Mayor prior to becoming the Vice President, and the national rollout of the Peace 911 initiative, which freed 17 barangays in Davao City’s Paquibato District from the clutches of the New Peoples Army, are some of the OVP’s plans for 2023 “in keeping with the trend of breaking glass ceilings and challenging the status quo.”

The Vice President also thanked the supporters and members of the UniTeam Kalibo for the support given to her last May 2022 elections.

After the meet and greet, she also met with Aklan Province Governor Joen Miraflores, former Governor Joeben Miraflores, members from the Sangguniang Panlalawigan 2nd district of Aklan, and mayors from the towns of Kalibo, Alvatas, Batan, Banga, Madalag, Libacao, Numancia, Lezo, Malinao, Tangalan, Ibajay, Nabas, Malay and Buruanga at the Poblacion Ibajay in Ibajay, Aklan.
