BANGUED, Abra — Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte on Wednesday shared to parents of ‘PagbaBAGo’ campaign recipients the importance of family planning in getting the family out of poverty.
“Sa mga magulang, kailangang merong pagplano sa pamilya dahil kapag marami po ang ating anak, hindi po matatapos ng pag-aaral ang mga anak natin,” Duterte said during her PagbaBAGo campaign orientation to schoolchildren and parents at the Bangued Town Plaza.
She also encouraged women and parents to normalise seeking birth control advice from health professionals.
“Dapat magdesisyon tayo na magplano tayo para sa kinabukasan ng ating mga anak. Pumunta tayo sa health center, mangunsulta tayo sa doktor at tanungin natin sya kung ‘ano ang dapat gamitin ko para hindi ako magbuntis na wala sa plano naming pamilya?’” she said to a thousand of parent-audience.
Anna Joy Paculsa, 32, one of the parents in the crowd, agreed with the Vice President, saying she also wanted her children to finish education for them to have a better future.
Paculsa also said she would follow the Vice President’s advice on family planning.
“Gagawin ko yon (birth control) para sa sarili ko din para hindi na madagdagan (ang anak)” she added.
Paculsa, who’s husband is a tricycle driver, came to the event with her one-month old infant— her fourth child.
The ‘PagbaBAGo’ campaign is a program under the OVP, with the Vice President visiting cities and towns across the country, distributing bags containing school supplies and dental kits to children while bringing the message of responsible parenthood.
