HINOBA-AN, Negros Occidental — Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte on Monday asked parents and local leaders to make sure 100 per cent of youth attend schools.
“Dapat po meron tayong target na paniguraduhin na 100 percent sa ating mga kabataan ay nag-aaral,” Duterte said before the crowd who were mainly local government officials and employees.
The Vice President was guest of honor in the celebration of the 23rd Pagbana-ag Festival and 64th Hinoba-an Anniversary
Duterte also shared her PagbaBAGo campaign, which was first implemented when she was still mayor of Davao City, advocating education as a way to end poverty. She added that PagbaBAGo comes hand-in-hand with family planning.
“Dala namin sa PagbaBAGo campaign ang importance ng responsible parenthood o pagpaplano ng pamilya dahil karamihan sa mga naghihirap na pamilya maraming anak dahil wala silang access sa kaalaman sa tamang pagpaplano ng pamilya,” she said.
Duterte stressed on the importance of guiding children to the right path and never let them succumb to the drugs and violent extremism.
She also underscored the significance of livelihood among residents for them to be able to provide for their daily needs as she introduced the Mag Negosyo Ta ‘Day (MTD)— a recently-launched program of the Office of the Vice President.
The MTD was also implemented in Davao City during her term as mayor.
Meanwhile, Hinoba-an Mayor Daph Anthony Reliquias thanked the Office of the Vice President for creating the Pubic Assistance help desk in their town.
“It will surely serve the poor, marginalized, and disadvantaged citizens,” the mayor said.
