VP Sara offers: OVP to help peace, entrepreneurship projects

KABANKALAN CITY, Negros Occidental — Vice President Sara Duterte on Tuesday said the Office of the Vice President (OVP) is always ready to help this city in its peace and entrepreneurship projects.

Duterte was guest speaker during the Kabankalan City 116th Founding Anniversary and Tourism Recovery Jumpstart at the public plaza here.

“We have money to give you kung aduna mo’y organized LGBTQI+ sector or women’s group na nagatrabaho para sa inyong city diri sa Kabankalan. So please let us know how we can help you in jumpstarting your tourism recovery program. Andam mi namuhatag og suporta sa inyong syudad (We have money to give you if you have any organized LGBTQI+ sector or women’s group that are working for your city here in Kabankalan. So please let us know how we can help you in jumpstarting your tourism recovery program. We are ready to provide support here in your city.),” Duterte said.

“Peace 911 is also something that you can access here because we have the budget and the funding to assist you in your peace initiatives diri sa inyong lugar (here in your area),” she added.

The OVP’s Magnegosyo ‘Ta Day (MTD) livelihood program and Peace 911 are some of Duterte’s flagship projects when she was still mayor in Davao City.

In Davao City, the MTD has been successful in enabling its beneficiaries by augmenting their daily income, making them economically empowered and independent. The project has been adopted by the OVP for nationwide implementation.

The MTD was launched in San Pedro, Laguna on March 8.

Duterte also shared how Peace 911, a project in Davao City where she served as mayor and now adopted by the OVP, transformed the far-flung community of the city's Paquibato District which used to be a stronghold of the New People’s Army (NPA).

Before Duterte ended her term as mayor in 2022 to run for the vice presidency, Paquibato District in Davao City was declared as insurgency-free.

“May I reiterate our offer to help you for the Magnegosyo ‘Ta Day and Peace 911 project for your city,” Duterte said.

The Vice President also cited the Marcos administration's 8-point socio-economic agenda that focus on improving food security, transportation, health care, education, and social services while reducing energy costs, practicing sound fiscal management, and enhancing bureaucratic efficiency.

She said the Marcos administration will advance the tourism sector, which is “fundamental to the country’s economy, not only as a source of revenue but also as a major employer for millions of Filipinos.”

“We need to enhance our international standing in the global tourism circuit by strengthening our brand not only as a Southeast Asian tourism node, but as a vibrant, resilient, and liveable country,” Duterte said.

“This will open great opportunities for Kabankalan — with tourism being the key pillar in your economic growth,” she added.

Duterte, who is also the Secretary of Education, said that as the tourism of Kabankalan continues to put the city on the national map, the growth will be advantageous to children as it will open them to proactive engagements in entrepreneurship, leadership, environmental stewardship, community involvement, employment, and education toward sustainable living.

Meanwhile, the Vice President lauded the city for its tourism direction that is inclusive and rewarding for the people while remaining attractive to investors and visitors.

“May you continue to serve as a shining example of Filipinos united by their shared goal of deepening and broadening partnerships to improve local governance and bring about a future of harmony and prosperity for all,” Duterte said.
