SAN ROQUE, Tarlac — Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte called on the Filipinos’ Bayanihan spirit to help prepare schools for the opening of classes this month.
Duterte led the Brigada Eskwela Kick-off at the Tarlac National High School here on Monday morning.
“Brigada Eskwela is an appeal to the Bayanihan spirit of every Filipino to help prepare our schools for the opening of classes,” Duterte said.
“It is (to) make our schools functional, clean, and orderly inside and outside the classrooms and within the school sides,” she added.
Duterte cited the Department of Education (DepEd) Order No. 21 s. 2023, or the Brigada Eskwela Implementing Guidelines on how it can pave the way for a brighter and more resilient start for Filipino learners.
The Brigada Eskwela is a nationwide school maintenance program that engages all education stakeholders to contribute their time, effort, and resources in ensuring that public schools are all set in time for class opening.
It is a six-day event that will be conducted from August 14-19 where local communities, parents, alumni, civic groups, local businesses, nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), private individuals, and even teachers and students volunteer their time and skills for the conduct of clean-ups, minor to medium repairs, and maintenance work in classrooms and within the school site.
