MANDALUYONG CITY — The Office of the Vice President, through its Disaster Operations Center (OVP-DOC), provided relief assistance to a total of 2,384 individuals or 811 families who were left homeless by fire incidents in Parañaque City and Tacloban City.

A total of 951 individuals on Thursday (June 1) received rice assistance from the OVP-DOC. The beneficiaries lost their homes when a fire hit Barangay San Antonio in Parañaque City on May 18.

On Saturday (June 3), a total of 111 families or 399 individuals affected by the May 29 conflagration in Barangay 42, Tacloban City also received relief boxes from the OVP-DOC and the OVP Tacloban Satellite Office.

Most of the displaced families are seeking temporary shelter in three evacuation centers — the Tacloban Evacuation Center, Tacloban Barangay Hall, and the Tacloban Basketball Court.

Some of the fire victims are staying with relatives.

The OVP relief boxes contain sleeping mats, blankets, mosquito nets, hygiene kits such as alcohol, face masks and other sanitary items.
