DAVAO CITY — The Office of the Vice President's Disaster Operations Center (OVP-DOC) on Sunday evening distributed relief goods in remote parts of Zamboanga City that were affected by heavy flooding.
The OVP-DOC, in partnership with the Philippine Coast Guard, OVP Zamboanga Satellite Office, and the Social Welfare and Development Office of Zamboanga City delivered relief boxes containing essentials such as water, sanitary items, sleeping mats, blankets, mosquito nets, and face masks to the flood-affected residents of Zamboanga City.
Families from Barangays Putik, Cabuluay, Culianan, Pasolobong and Boalan received the said relief packages from the OVP-DOC on Sunday. But due to heavy rain, the distribution of relief boxes in Barangay Tumaga was conducted morning of December 26.
According to the latest update from the City Government of Zamboanga, more than 400 residents are seeking shelter in eight evacuation centers in different barangays.
A resident has been reported missing when flooding struck as a result of the heavy rains that started on Christmas Eve.
