Office of the Vice President

The UP College of Medicine and Physicians for Peace will turn over 50 water filters to the Office of the Vice President (OVP) on Thursday (June 15) for the evacuees of the Marawi conflict. The OVP will be in charge of bringing these filters to the families in evacuation sites in Marawi, Iligan, Cagayan de Oro, Tangcal, Lanao del Norte, and other towns in Lanao del Sur.
The need for water filters was identified during the recent Marawi rehabilitation meeting led by Vice President Leni Robredo last Friday (June 9). The meeting was attended by representatives from the Marawi City local government, representatives from the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao government, and Angat Buhay partners.
Families currently living in evacuation sites are unable to attain basic services and necessities, and access to safe and potable drinking water was one of the needs highlighted during the meeting.
The OVP has already begun mobilizing its partners for the early recovery and rehabilitation of communities affected by the clash. “While it is equally important to continue the relief efforts it is also high time that we start the conversation on rehabilitating and rebuilding Marawi City,” VP Leni said during the meeting.
