OVP gives aid to oil spill-hit Oriental Mindoro

MANDALUYONG — The Office of the Vice President Disaster Operations Center (OVP-DOC) conducted another relief operations in Calapan City and two Oriental Mindoro towns that were affected by the oil spill.

The OVP-DOC said a total of 2,924 sacks of rice equivalent to 146,200 kilograms were distributed to residents in the municipalities of Naujan and Bulalacao, and Calapan City on April 25 and April 27.

On April 25, a total of 1,469 sacks of rice were distributed in Naujan and Bulalacao towns. The affected residents received a sack of rice each.

On Thursday morning (April 27), the OVP-DOC distributed 1,455 sacks of rice to 10 barangays — Navotas, Maidlang, Nag Iba 1, Nag Iba 2, Gutad, Silonay, Parang, Suiqui, Lazareto and Calero — all in Calapan City.

The relief mission was the fourth operation undertaken by the OVP-DOC following the sinking of MT Princess Empress off the coast of Naujan on February 28. The ship carried 800,000 liters of industrial fuel oil.

On April 14-18, a five-day relief mission also was conducted by the OVP-DOC in Oriental Mindoro, distributing 1,616 sacks or 80,000 kilograms of rice to 8,241 fisherfolk beneficiaries.

Vice President Sara Duterte on March 13 personally led the distribution of 1,200 food boxes affected residents in the province of Antique, which was also affected by the oil spill.

On March 31, the OVP-DOC also distributed 1,310 food boxes to residents in Batangas, another province affected by the oil spill.
