OVP-DOC ramps up relief ops in Caraga Region

MANDALUYONG CITY — The Office of the Vice President - Disaster Operations Center (OVP-DOC) launched relief operations to assist thousands of families affected by the flooding and landslides in the CARAGA Region.

On March 1, some 200 sacks of rice were also delivered to the towns of San Francisco, Bunawan, and Esperanza in the province of Agusan del Sur.

The next day, the OVP-DOC also distributed 135 sacks of rice to over 675 displaced families in Lianga town, 10 sacks of rice in Barobo, and 15 sacks of rice in Lanuza, all in Surigao del Sur.

On March 3, the OVP-DOC, through its quick response teams in the different field offices, provided 60 sacks of rice to over 300 displaced families in San Miguel town, also in Surigao del Sur.

Earlier, on February 28, a total of 50 sacks of rice were handed over to Barangay San Vicente in Butuan City.

On that same day, more than 100 relief boxes containing sleeping mats, blankets, mosquito nets, hygiene kits such as alcohol, face masks and other sanitary items were also distributed to 370 displaced families in Barangays Pangabugan and Maon in Butuan City.

Also on February 28, a total of 235 displaced families from the municipalities of General Luna, Bacuag, Claver and Tubod in Surigao del Norte received 40 sacks of rice, while 35 relief boxes were handed over to Mainit town. The towns of Las Nieves, RT Romualdez, Buenavista, Jabonga, Magallanes and Cabadbaran in Agusan del Norte also received 100 sacks of rice from the OVP-DOC.

On February 27, over 220 sacks of rice were delivered by the OVP-DOC to the towns of Lianga, Lanuza, Barobo, and San Miguel in Surigao del Sur.

According to a report from the OVP-DOC, a total of 13,488 families or 57,276 individuals in the provinces of Agusan del Sur, Agusan del Norte, Butuan City, Surigao del Norte and Surigao del Sur were affected by the flooding.
