More oil-spill hit residents in Oriental Mindoro have been provided with relief assistance in the continuation of the Office of the Vice President-Disaster Operations Center (OVP-DOC) relief operations.
A total of 5,385 sacks or 269,250 kilograms of rice were distributed to the fisherfolk in three municipalities covering 17 barangays.
The town of Pola received 4,617 sacks of rice, while the towns of Pinamalayan and Naujan received 528 sacks and 240 sacks, respectively.
The undertaking, conducted last May 8-12, was part of the OVP-DOC’s second wave of relief operations to the province which started last April 25.
On April 25 to 27, the OVP-DOC brought 2,924 sacks of rice to the oil spill-hit towns of Naujan and Bulalacao, and Calapan City.
The initiative of the OVP-DOC has also gone to other localities outside Oriental Mindoro which were also affected by the oil spill following the February 28 sinking of MT Princess Empress, which carried with it over 800,000 liters of industrial fuel oil. The oil spill has affected the livelihood of residents in the fishing communities.
