OVP brings PanSarap to BARMM school

UPI, MAGUINDANAO — The Office of the Vice President (OVP) and the Ministry Basic, Higher and Technical Education on Tuesday delivered the program “PanSarap,” a supplemental nutrition intervention for undernourished learners, in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

A total of 1,064 undernourished Kindergarten to Grade 6 learners of the Nuro Central Elementary School in Upi, Maguindanao are the beneficiaries of the program. For 30 days, they will be given nutritional buns developed by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), through the Food and Nutrition Research Institute (FNRI).

The PanSarap bread, all Halal certified, comes in 10 flavors. The buns are fortified with nutrients such as Vitamin A, Energy, Protein, Calcium, and Iron.

Last month, the PanSarap Program was pilot-tested on 733 undernourished Kindergarten to Grade 6 students of the Lower Tamugan Elementary School in Davao City.

The OVP also plans to bring the program to other parts of the country with high cases of malnutrition among children.
