TONDO, Manila -- Vendors of a public market here that was razed by fire last month received financial assistance from the Office of the Vice President (OVP) through the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
On May 22, the OVP, in partnership with the DSWD, provided financial assistance to the affected vendors of the Pritil Public Market through the DSWD’s Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS).
A total of 650 vendors received P3,000 each.
Pritil Public Market in Barangay 91, Zone 8, District 1 in Tondo, Manila was razed on April 28. The fire destroyed all the stalls in the market.
Barangay Captain Antonio Asilo, in a phone interview, said the fire left the vendors without livelihood.
He said that the fire also destroyed the second floor of the adjacent barangay hall, including monitoring equipment and electronics.
“Yung Pritil Public Market totally po, 100 per cent, nasunog. Pati po mismo yung barangay hall namin kasama din po sa nasunog dahil nagkataon nakasandal po yung barangay hall namin sa public market,” Asilo said.
Asilo added that some of the market and ambulant vendors are temporarily selling outside the market.
Asilo thanked the OVP for financially supporting the affected vendors, which will help them recover from their losses.
“Ang aking pasasalamat kay Vice President Sara Duterte sa tulong na ipinaabot niya sa mga maninindang nasunugan” he said.
