12 April 2017
In response to the recent earthquakes that have affected various towns in Batangas, the Office of the Vice President (OVP) returned today (April 12, Wednesday) to the Municipality of Mabini to turnover relief goods.
The small town of Mabini was first surveyed on April 10, after two earthquakes hit the province on April 8 with magnitude 5.6 and 6.0, respectively. More than a thousand families are in need of aid as some face total damages to their properties.
Through the Disaster Relief and Rehabilitation (DRR) component of OVP’s Angat Buhay program, 1,400 food packs have been procured and delivered to affected families in Mabini.
Angat Buhay partners, RAF International Forwarding, Inc. and the batch mates of VP Leni, also generously donated Php 50,000 worth of blankets to families who until now are temporarily sleeping in tents.
Coordination continues with another Angat Buhay partner for the procurement of more tents for Mabini, as well as an ongoing donation drive for more relief goods, blankets, and tents.
OVP seeks to ensure that victims of calamities are provided assistance in the soonest possible time. Prior to rehabilitation, basic needs such as food, clothing, and shelter are fundamental to the survival of affected communities.
Through DRR, Angat Buhay partners are able to reach out to these communities and bring hope to those who have been devastated.
