At 9:45 am, the Vice President attended the Angat Buhay Youth- ARMM (ABYA) Summit Competition Awarding Ceremony in Shariff Kabunsuan Cultural Complex (SKCC), Cotabato City. ABYA gathered 30 youth organizations in Mindanao for a 5-day conference, which aimed to create a hub of ideas for community-based projects and peace-building initiatives. It also served as an avenue to build a network of youth leaders who shall contribute towards establishing a culture of peace in Mindanao. The participants of the underwent capacity building to better design, market implement, and sustain community development and peace-building initiatives towards Countering Violent Extremism (CVE).
In her message, the Vice President mentioned that solutions must not only come from leaders but also from the people. It is the government’s role to provide the youth an avenue to express themselves. “Naniniwala kami na iyong mga leaders, wala silang monopoly—wala kaming monopoly—of good intentions. Wala kaming monopoly ng husay, wala kaming monopoly ng magagandang plano. Kaya kailangan, para maging mas empowering iyong gobyerno, binibigyan ng pagkakataon iyong ordinaryong mamamayan na makilahok sa pagpaplano. And this is the very purpose why we are having this exercise: to give you the avenue to express how you feel about things; to give you a chance to pitch sa mga programang gusto niyo.”
