Mr. Steve Killelea, Founder and Executive Chairman of the Institute For Economics and Peace, Discusses Positive Peace with Vice President Sara Z. Duterte

MANDALUYONG CITY, 08 November 2022 – Mr. Steve Killelea, Founder and Executive Chairman of the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP) called on Vice President Sara Z. Duterte at the Office of the Vice President (OVP) Central Office in Mandaluyong City. Joining Mr. Killelea in the call is Mr. Charles Allen, Director for Partnerships of the IEP, and their consultant, Ms. Irene Santiago.

During the call, Mr. Killeleaand Vice President Duterte talked about Davao City’s early adoption of Positive Peace and its eight pillars. The Vice President highlighted the success story of Paquibato District in Davao City through the Peace 911 program. She also shared that Peace 911 has been adopted by the Office of the Vice President and is intended to be expanded and rolled out in targeted areas in the country in the coming year.Mr. Killelea shared about the adoption of Positive Peace in the rest of the Philippines and around the world.

The Vice President informed the IEP of other programs being pursued by the OVP under her administration such as Mag Negosyo ‘Ta Day and PagbaBAGo Campaign. She also mentioned the ongoing curriculum review by the Department of Education and its plans to integrate the culture of peace into the K to 12 curriculum in order to produce skilled peacebuilders in the country.

Mr. Killelea expressed his readiness to assist in the Vice President’s advocacy. The Vice President conveyed her appreciation for his support to the OVPand the country’s pursuit of lasting peace.
