MANDALUYONG CITY, 21 September 2022 – EU Ambassador Luc Véron called on Vice President Sara Z. Duterte at the Office of the Vice President (OVP) Central Office in MandaluyongCity. In his remarks, the Ambassador congratulated the Vice President on her election.
The Vice President expressed her openness to cultural exchanges with the EU and to learn from the best practices of the EU Member States in the field of education. Ambassador Véronsharedthe EU’s programs in the Philippines such ashumanitarian assistance for rebuilding schools in areas affected by disasters or destroyed due to conflict.
The Ambassador outlined the main pillars of EU’s cooperation with the Philippines which includepeace, good governance,human rights, and economy.He added that the EU is supporting institution building and good governance in BARMM through the Support to Bangsamoro Transition (SUBATRA) program, and socioeconomic development projects in Mindanao in coordination with the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA).The Vice President conveyed her appreciation to the Ambassador for EU’s support especially for peacebuilding in Mindanao and underscored the importance of security, stability, and sustainable development in the region.

The EU Ambassador conveyed to the Vice President some of the upcoming activities between the EU and the Philippines. He underscored the importance of strengthening relations and having a better understanding between both. The Vice President thanked the Ambassador for helping bring the Philippines closer to the EU.
