American Ambassador Marykay Loss Carlson and Vice President Sara Z. Duterte Discuss Issues in the Basic Education Sector

MANDALUYONG CITY, 21 September 2022 – American Ambassador MaryKay Loss Carlson called on Vice President Sara Z. Duterte at the Office of the Vice President (OVP) Central Office in Mandaluyong City. In her remarks, the Ambassador congratulated the Vice President on her election.

Vice President Duterte and Ambassador Carlson discussed the importance of education for the country’s future. The Vice President outlined the Philippines’ Basic Education Development Plan anchored on the Sustainable Development Goals, and the issues confronting the basic education sector in the country especially due to the pandemic. The Ambassador in turn shared about the issues being faced by the education sector in the United States such as the shortage of teachers and the great resignation that occurred during the pandemic. They also discussed the shift to full face to face mode of learning and its challenges.

During the call, Ambassador Carlson highlighted the bilateral relations between the Philippines and the United States and the previous and upcoming high-level engagements between both countries. They also discussed the ongoing Working Visit of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to the United States and the arrangements in government while the President is on foreign travel.

The Vice President expressed her appreciation to the Ambassador for their support and for opening areas of cooperation.
