Vice President Leni Robredo on Sunday said that Solicitor General Jose Calida should shift his attention to addressing the more than a million backlog of cases in his office, rather than meddling in complaints targeting the perceived critics of the administration.

This as VP Leni questioned the involvement of Calida’s office in the sedition complaint filed against her and other opposition figures based on the allegations of Peter Joemel Advincula.

News reports recently surfaced that OSG employees assisted in drafting the affidavit of Advincula, where he accused the opposition of pressuring him to link President Duterte, his family and allies to the drug trade.

Calida’s office later admitted participating in crafting Bikoy’s affidavit, saying it is the legal duty of the office to serve its clients—in this case, the Philippine National Police’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, which initiated the filing of the complaint.

While most lawyers under the Office of the Solicitor General are laudably dedicated to serving the public, VP Leni, who is also a lawyer by profession, lamented that Calida’s actions are putting the entire institution in a bad light.
