Vice President Leni Robredo reiterated her call for the administration to rethink its approach in its campaign against illegal drugs, as the President himself admits that the drug problem in the country is getting worse.
VP Leni noted that the pronouncements made by President Rodrigo Duterte himself, along with the conflicting figures presented by authorities, show that the drug war isn’t achieving the promise to lessen, and ultimately eradicate, illegal drugs here.
Eh hindi sila nagbibigay,” she said Sunday, on her weekly radio show, BISErbisyong LENI, on RMN-DZXL 558.
Gustong sabihin, iyong three years na grabe iyong patayan, hindi naging matagumpay,” she added.
Over the past few years, VP Leni has repeatedly asked the Duterte administration to recalibrate its anti-drug campaign, especially amid the spate of killings since it began, and to focus on rehabilitation for recovering drug dependents, as well as on running after syndicates and personalities involved in the drug trade.
During Sunday’s show, VP Leni, along with their guest, human rights lawyer Chel Diokno, also called on the administration to act upon the allegations that the President’s Chinese adviser is involved in the drug trade.
“Dapat seryosohin,” Robredo said of the accusation made by former police officer Eduardo Acierto.
Diokno, a senatorial candidate under Otso Diretso, shared this view, saying the administration should not turn a blind eye on the intelligence report that Acierto recently made public.
Pero subject of investigation dapat iyan,” he said.
